President's Comments
President Elena welcomed all to our meeting today.
Happy Jar
President Elena was very pleased to have both of our current inbound Exchange Student, Saimi and our newly returned Outbound Student, Ella with us today. She expressed thanks to Saimi for being such a great exchange student and for spending the time with us. She was also very pleased to have been able to attend the Rotary International Convention in Calgary.
Louise Gardiner was happy to have been able to attend the recent Rotary International Convention in Calgary, one of the best she believes she has attended. The speakers were excellent, and she was able to visit the Stampede. The bonus was she was able to spend time with her son and his family, including her grandson.
Lumi Mironescu is delighted that daughter Ella has return safely after her year away in Japan as an exchange student, and was happy to have been a host parent for Saimi. She was also pleased that she recently received an award as a Financial Advisor from over 50 candidates.
Ella is happy to be back from her exchange and extremely thankful and grateful for the opportunity we provided her. She will provide a full report to the club later in the fall.
Saimi had mixed feelings as she will miss friends she has made here on her exchange but is looking forward to returning home to family. She thanked us for providing us with the opportunities and experiences she had and declared that she is a future Rotarian.
Membership Updates
The following members have left the club as of the start of this Rotary Year: Dave Chatson, Doina Georgescu, Narcis Georgescu, Martin Jones, Sharon MacDonald, Ailton Santana, and Carl Zehr. President Elena wished them all well and thanked them for the past service to Rotary.

Program Highlights
Our presenter today was our own Trevor Eaton, introduced by Linda Bennett.
Trevor Eaton is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Kitchener and a passionate advocate for health care in our community. For over five years, Trevor has served in various leadership roles at Grand River Hospital and the Grand River Hospital Foundation, where he currently leads the philanthropy and corporate partnerships portfolio.
Trevor is excited to speak with fellow Rotarians about the historic merger of Grand River and St. Mary’s General Hospital into the new Waterloo Regional Health Network—and the bold vision ahead: the development of a new, state-of-the-art hospital that will serve as the cornerstone of a modern, integrated health system for our growing region.
Much of the details of what Trevor presented are not for general public release at this time. His presentation covered the following areas:
- The history of the three KW Hospitals, and their past specialization which lead, in part, to their amalgamation and the development of the Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN).
- The proposed three-phase development of the new hospital.
- The steps needed to have the new hospital become a realty.
