PRESIDENT'S WINE QUIZ
This weeks condition- If you have visited the Club's Facebook page or Twitter page in the last 30 days then you were eligible to fill submit a ballot for the Wine Draw.

President John also gave us a head start on next week's condition.  If you go onto MyRotary and update your personal profile between now and next Monday's meeting then you will qualify to enter a ballot.
50/50 DRAW
Our 50/50 Draw pot has grown to $386 but none of  Candy Harrington, Ross Newkirk, nor Alasdair Douglas were able to find the Jack of Hearts so it will be even larger next week.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS
Howard Pell reminded members of the Bacon Festival / Charity Barbeque being held in Ayr on June 17 with proceeds going to KidsAbility.  We are hoping to get some Rotary volunteers to assist at the event and if we get enough we may be able to erect a Rotary information both.  Please let Howard know if you are interested and register as a volunteer at https://www.ayrcharitybbq.com/contact-us.

Cam Yule is still looking for corporate sponsors for our In Vino Caritas fundraiser on Thursday April 27.  Please contact Cam directly if you, your organization or some one you know is willing to sponsor this event.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Our program today was a report on our Online Auction Fundraiser held in November presented by Jim Phillips with assistance from Candi Harrington.

Overall, the results were quite good and were improvements over last year.  The chart below compares several key

Data Item                2015      2016     Change
Number of Items          42          85        102%
Number of Sponsors       3          10          67%
Number of Bidders        15          71         373%
Number of Members
Participating                 14          23          64%
Average Retail Value
for Items                   $331      $160       -52%
Average Bid Amount
for Items                   $179       $97       -46%
Bid to Actual
Conversion Rate           54%     61%

It was pointed out that the Average Retail Amount, although significantly lower than last year, was more in line with the other clubs and historical values.  We were fortunate in our first year to have fewer items but several of which were of very high value.

The following chart indicates financial results of the auction.

Revenue                                  2015      2016      Change
Gross Revenue from Items       $6,964     $8,236        18%
Sponsorship Revenue                 $750     $1,250         67%
Total Revenue                          $7,714    $9,486         23%

Expenses                                 2015      2016      Change
Shared Expenses all clubs            $904    $1,344         49%
Own Club Expenses                     $400       $977        144%
Total Expenses                         $1,304    $2,321          78%

Net Revenue                           $6,410    $7,165        12%

The shared expenses were higher this year primarily because one club dropped out and there were just three instead of four to share the costs.  Our club expenses were high due mainly to the signs we purchased which we will be able to reuse next year.

Our goal for this year was to have 10 sponsors which would have brought in $2,500 and covered the expenses leaving the revenue from the sales to be all profit and this will continue to be the goal for next year.

As we look to next year we will want to focus our solicitation of auction items on those that provide the greatest return as indicated in the two charts below.

Type of Items          % Return on Retail Value
1. Sports Tickets                    86.8
2. Restaurant Certificates        85.8
3. Grocery Certificates            84.0
4. Gift Cards / Baskets            69.5
5. Hardware / Tools                68.0
6. Golf Related                       62.0
7. Electronics / Computers      59.2
8. Sports Memorabilia            58.8
9. Appliances / Household      58.8
10. Outdoor / Backyard          54.9

Auction Dollar Proceeds by Type of Items
1. Outdoor / Backyard
2. Golf related
3. Appliances / Household
4. Restaurant Certificates
5. Travel / Life Experiences
6. Gift Cards / Baskets
7. Sports Tickets
8. Health & Beauty Care
9. Clothing & Fashion
10. Home Decor

Work on next year's auction has already begun and members are asked to start thinking about how they can support the fundraiser.  Our May 8th club meeting will focus on goals, plans and commitments from members for next year and our August 28th meeting will provided training, assignments and tips for the 2017 auction.

President John thanked Jim for the presentation and the committee for all of their hard work.  This fundraiser has potential to grow much larger but all members need to support it.

President John then informed the club about some Rotary programs and initiatives such as:
1. Rotary Community Corps
2. Rotary Action Groups
3. Rotary Service Partnerships, and
4. Rotary Awards

Information on all of these is available on the newly designed Rotary website - rotary.org.
