Our guest Speaker was Jamie Burton, Vice President of Dolphin. Jamie has been part of a team which innovated a technology solution to enable a barrier free employment strategy for people with disabilities. Dolphin's Support Stream was awarded Innovation of the Year, 2011 and is now utilized as a managed technology solution for clients. Dolphin’s designs enable a Virtual Office model which is energy-efficient and has a low ecological footprint, while facilitating cohesive communications, cost effectiveness and increased productivity.
Jamie's vision for the future includes the establishment of a model where business, government, & community organizations work together to achieve the removal of the remaining barriers faced by persons with disabilities. Business can be designed to create opportunity to evoke change, but it requires input and support from government and community.
As technology has an ever increasing impact and level of integration into all aspects of life, there is the potential to create, innovate and implement solutions which benefit all. Rather than developing solutions to an issue based on reaction to it, Jamie strives to design innovative strategies to evoke change from the beginning; creating an intrinsic and innate solution.
Dolphin Technologies was started 10 years ago with vision to create a business with social impact.
Jamie also pointed to the market size of people with disabilities. In Canada, people with disabilities represent $25Billion in consumer spending.
Disability Mentoring Day has been led by Dolphin Technologies and was started in 2011. The mission of Disabilities Mentoring Day is to bridge the communication and knowledge gaps between business, employment and community support organizations, and persons with disabilities.
