Ernie Ginsler introduced special guest Pat Quigley from the Stratford Festival. Pat has had an extensive career as a teacher, director of theatre plays and now as a consultant with the festival.
Pat has been a most informative guest in the past and brought some new thoughts regarding this year at Stratford .She strongly suggested that we review the pamphlets that she brought. For visitors interested in lectures, special films or programs of information they should search the “FORUM” a special new addition to the festival actives. These programs are very inexpensive and have become quite popular.
Pat discussed 4 plays from this year’s program. She highlighted 1. Physicists 2. Alchemist 3. Oedipus Rex 4. Anne Frank. Members interested in a review should pick up a brochure at the next meeting.
At the suggestion of Karen Redman, Pat encouraged members to buy the tickets on sale at the silent auction at In Vino Caritas for the play Last Wife. This play is sold out.
Carl thanked Pat with the donation for polio vaccinations.
Howard contributed several flags from Rotary clubs where he made up on his recent trip.
Barry MacLeod proudly displayed a baseball that he caught when at a Blue Jays game in Florida. He predicted that the Jays would win 88 games and be one ahead of the Detroit team.
Past President Carl Zehr conducted today’s meeting. Carl was president 1981-82. He reviewed many moments of interest from his year. There were 208 members and the meetings were held in the ballroom with a head table with specially designated seating plans. He recalled the meetings held at the Art Gallery, the fishing parties for the children, the 3-club picnics and many meetings with special guests including Lloyd Robertson, Betty Thompson and Max Ward. Attendance was monitored and members listed in the bulletin if not in attendance. Carl gave a very interesting review of how things were over thirty years ago.
Carl was visually surprised and appreciative when the members sang “Happy Birthday” in place of O Canada.
