This was a very busy weekend for Car Draw sales as we had both our regular Market shifts on Thursday and Saturday as well as our shifts at the Cambridge RibFest along with our shifts to help out at the RibFest itself. President David made all of the members who helped with the above in any way the Bell Ringers for this week.
Cheryl Ewing is very happy that her daughter has just completed directing the local production of Godspell - her first time as the solo director. The play is appearing at the Registry theatre. Cheryl was also delighted to report that as a result of the work being done in Nogales by Rotarians from our district, the local government has announcement that they will now being an annual program of renal testing for all children.
John Webster was pleased to report that he and Sheila had a great week in Mexico. While there he found a camera on the beach and was able to track down the owner and get it returned to her - a marine biologist who said many of the photos related to her latest research. John indicated that through the process he and Sheila have new friends and the world has potentially a new Rotarian.
Good news from the Car Draw Campaign: Louise Gardiner was very happy to get out doing hands-on sales again meeting people and talking about Rotary. Paul Rostrup got to speak with a gentlemen in the All State Insurance booth next to us and ended up being included in a article for a Chinese community web page. Bill Proctor was happy to accept a $2 donation who said she had spent all of her other money at the RibFest and but still wanted to support KidsAbility with her last toonie.
The Classification and Membership Development Committee on behalf of the Board of Directors have approved the following proposal for membership in the Satellite Club of the Rotary Club of Kitchener.
Howard Pell informed members that we brought in just over $1,500 in ticket sales at the Cambridge RibFest on the weekend and thanked everyone who helped out. He reminded everyone to continue to sign up for Card Draw Ticket Selling Shifts at the Market, and the Plowing Match and to consider visiting other clubs in the area to promote the event and to sell tickets. Please . In particular we still need someone to do the shifts at the Market this coming Thursday. When tickets are sold in public locations please remember to put a red mark on the back of the stub. This helps to identify people to add to the mail list in the future.
Our guest speaker today was our very own President Dave Chatson who gave the annual Presidential address. Dave gave us his insights for the positive direction our club has been going in the past years and his optimistic comments about our success in the future. He focused on three questions defining us as Rotarians and as a Rotary Club: Who, what and why? By right, Rotarians are a motivated group of individuals who believe in core values to enhance the lives of others in our communities and around the world. He congratulated us on the countless things we have accomplished as a club and noted that the rich history in our club allows us to carry on as a vibrant club today. He also challenged each of us, from time to time, to remind ourselves as to "why" we joined Rotary, in essence dialing in on the reasons we do the work that we do.
Dave introduced the new board members for 2017-2018, Past President John Webster, President Elect Alasdair Douglas, Treasurer Ray Taylor, Secretary Cam Yule, Directors PP Karen Redman, PP Cheryl Ewing, PP Candi Harrington, PP Hubert Singh, Adrian DeCoo, David Smith and Richard Bruckeder. He congratulated all of them on their years of service to Rotary and for their willingness to serve. He also conveyed that 2017-2018 is "all " of our Rotary year, each of us is integral and vital to the success of our club.
Dave commented that this year might be a good year to re-look at our club's strategic plan to see how we have been doing as a club and if subtle adjustments are needed going forward. He suggested that possibly a new committee might be formed to oversee all fundraising, helping to maximize our "volunteer hours" in the best possible way. He also encouraged us to embrace the new members of our Satellite Club and look for ways for us to work seamlessly within both branches of our club.
Dave thanked everyone for the volunteer work we do, the funds we raise and the commitment to see 2017-2018 another successful year!
Please remember to advise Bill Proctor of situations which would require some acknowledgement from the club - special anniversaries, illness, celebrations, hospitalizations etc.

Sandra has now officially retired! On behalf of our club she was presented with a beautiful flower arrangement and dinner gift certificate for her and Jim to enjoy! Your board is in the process of investigating the best way to replace the MANY things Sandra has done for us, often without most of even knowing!! Sandra will be formally recognized at one of our upcoming events.
